On Our Free-willing Readiness
January 1935
Eberhard: We do not need any further admonition, since this has gone deeply into our hearts. We honor God and thank Him. We have come together in the certainty that Christ is the truth, that He reveals the nature of His will. And we trust that we will be allowed to live in the truth, step by step and day by day. We know that lies never come out of truth, but that truth brings forth the freedom of truthfulness, of clearness and definiteness. Therefore we want to ask of God that the perfect truth which was revealed in Jesus Christ and wants to break through in His Spirit ever anew--that this truth may send its rays out to all men, so that they too may recognize who Jesus is: the King of the coming Kingdom, and also truth and love. Because of this, free will must live in these little people. God does not want anything to exist unmoved; He wants a free movement of hearts. Therefore He wants innermost free will in man. This is just the essence of His love for us – that He wants this free will for us. If He did not respect our free will, His love for us would be without a spark of reverence for the mystery of human life. Thus He wants to have prayer. Our human will is weak and not very firm; for it is not God, but man.
So we need to declare our readiness ever anew in daily prayer. God will act and is ready to act; He always wants to create movement.
And now let us be ready and declare our readiness.

Freiwilligkeit und Gebet

Wir bedürfen keiner weiteren Anrede mehr, da es tief in unsere Herzen gefallen ist. Wir ehren Gott und danken ihm. Wir sind dazu zusammengekommen in der Gewissheit, dass Christus die Wahrheit ist, der das Wesen seines Willens offenbart. Und wir haben das Vertrauen, dass wir in der Wahrheit leben dürfen Schritt für Schritt und Tag für Tag und wir wissen, dass keine Lüge aus der Wahrheit kommt, sondern dass die Wahrheit die Freiheit der Wahrhaftigkeit, der Deutlichkeit und Bestimmtheit Gottes hervorbringt. Deshalb wollen wir es von Gott erbitten, dass die vollendete Wahrheit, die in Jesus Christus offenbar geworden ist und die in Seinem Geist stets aufs neue zum Durchbruch kommen will und auf alle Menschen seine Strahlen hinaussenden will, dass auch sie erkennen, wer Jesus ist: der König des kommenden Gottesreiches und weiter die Wahrheit und die Liebe. Deshalb muss in diesen kleinen Menschen der freie Wille leben. Gott will nicht, dass irgend etwas ist, das unbewegt sei, sondern er will, dass es freie Herzensbewegung sei, und so will er eine innerste Freiwilligkeit des Menschen. Das gerade ist das Wesen seiner Liebe zu uns, dass er unsere Freiwilligkeit wünscht. Sine Liebe enthielte ja kein Funkchen Achtung vor dem Geheimnis des menschlichen Wesens, wenn er unsere Freiwilligkeit nicht achten würde. Und deshalb will er das Gebet. Der menschliche Wille ist schwankend

und schwach und sehr wenig gefestigt; denn er ist nicht Gott, sondern Mensch.
Deshalb bedürfen wir der immer erneuten Bereitschaftserklärung des täglichen Gebets. Gott will handeln und er ist bereit zu handeln; er will immer Bewegung schaffen. Und nun wollen wir bereit sein und unsere Bereitschaft erklären.
