The Way to God and Its Obstacles
A. The way to God. There is a divine proclamation to human beings!!! There is a point in history where the living God has disclosed Himself to humanity! There is a personality in whom God has made Himself known unequivocally and spotlessly! Jesus as the way to God! Jesus as he really was!
There is an act in history that has brought us God himself, an act that in itself indicates the way to God! The greatest act in history has been the great act of liberation, which has eliminated all the obstacles that have piled up between us and God!—The life of Jesus has been the greatest life in history because the life of Jesus means freedom for God! Freedom from human dependence and from servitude to Mammon. Freedom from sin’s bonds! Freedom from all religious, human statues and from all priestly rule! Therefore only Jesus was able to accomplish the greatest act of liberation: Jesus died as the one he was!
He died as a human being to create the One new humankind, the new humanity from God!
He died as the King to break the old dominion of Satan’s power on earth! [p. 1]
He died as the Son of God to offer the atoning sacrifice for our guilt:
The death of Jesus as the way to God:
As the only true human being, he brings us the new humanity, the energy of life from God!
As the King of Earth, he brings the overthrow of Satan to its completion.
As the Son of God, he has prevailed, beating a path for the way to God! The obstacles are eliminated! The way is free! The way to God!
And yet: How many obstacles threateningly raise their heads to deter us from this way to God!
Our task today is to prove these obstacles to be chimeras, the figments of our imagination, pretenses of non-existent threats, all of which collapse into themselves as soon as the light of the cross dispels the mists!
B. In the five lectures of our completed cycle, we believe we have overcome two major obstacles that hold back so many:
1.) The self-righteousness of one’s own way.
2.) The ignorance of objective doubts.
1.) The religious struggle of the present time revealed to us a colorful picture of all the futile attempts to undertake a religious ascent to God from the human [side]. [p. 2]
It is a very formidable obstacle on the way to God as long as we still want to come to God with our religiosity and piety, our resoluteness and legalism.
It is the message of grace that indicates the way to God. Using grace means: renouncing every effort of one's own, sacrificing all rights:
Image: The murderer who stops by grace! If we want to adopt the way that God has paved, we must abandon the ways in which we have buried ourselves.

2.) The most common obstacle in modern times is ignorance about Jesus, objective doubts concerning whether Jesus really brought God.
Therefore: Jesus as the proof of God.
Jesus as He really was.
The greatest act in history. [p. 3]
Imagine the person of Jesus! And all doubts disappear. Study Jesus! And you will attain certainty about the way to God! Torrey p. 71. a and b

But: “The natural person2 receives nothing of the Spirit of God” [1 Cor. 2:14, trans. from German]. “Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born anew” [John 3:3 NRSV (note)].
Through being born again, we receive one insight after another so that we grow bit by bit in the knowledge of our Lord!
The more we have of Him, the more all questions and puzzles disappear before His clarity.
But we must make a whole, clear decision; otherwise, we cannot have Him.
Jesus has a remedy that is certain, and it is for any serious-minded doubter: Torrey p. 69 (VII, 1). [“]Anyone who resolves to do the will of God[” (John 7:17 NRSV)]

3.) But for most of us it is not objective doubts about God and Jesus that form our obstacles, but personal fears as to whether we can be complete Christians.
I. You are afraid that you cannot undertake the new life, that there is not enough strength.

You have nothing to fear!
You have power [in] abundance!

Der Weg zu Gott und seine Hinderniße
A. Der Weg zu Gott. - Es gibt eine göttliche Kundgebung an den Menschen!!! Es gibt eine Punkt in der Geschichte, an dem der lebendige Gott Sich Selbst der Menschheit entdeckt hat! Es gibt eine Persönlichkeit, in welcher sich Gott unzweideutig und fleckenlos kundgetan hat! Jesus als der Weg zu Gott! Jesus, als er wirklich war!
Es gibt eine Tat in der Geschichte, die uns Gott selbst gebracht hat, eine Tat, die in sich selbst den Weg zu Gott bedeutet! Die größte Tat der Geschichte ist die große Tat der Befreiung gewesen, die alle Hinderniße beseitigt hat, die sich zwischen uns und Gott aufgetürmt haben! - Das Leben Jesu is das größte Leben der Geschichte gewesen. Denn das Leben Jesu bedeutet Freiheit für Gott! Freiheit von Menschenabhängigkeit und Mammonsknechtung! Freiheit von den Fesseln der Sünde! Freiheit von aller religiösen Menschensatzung und Priesterherrschaft! Deshalb konnte nur Jesus es sein, der die größte Tat der Befreiung vollbracht hat: Jesus starb als das, was er war!
Er starb als der Mensch, um die Eine neue Menschheit zu schaffen, das neue Menschentum aus Gott!
Er starb als der König, um die alte Herrschaft der Satansmacht auf der Erde zu brechen!

Er starb als der Sohn Gottes, um das Sühnopfer darzubringen für unsre Schuld:
Der Tod Jesu als der Weg zu Gott:
Er als der einzige wahre Mensch bringt uns das neue Menschentum, die Lebensenergie aus Gott!
Er als der König der Erde vollendet den Sturz des Satan
Er als der Sohn Gottes hat die Bahn gebrochen für den Weg zu Gott! Die Hinerniße sind beseitigt! Der Weg ist frei! Der Weg zu Gott!!
Und doch: Wie viele Hinderniße erheben drohend ihr Haupt, um uns abzuhalten von diesem Weg zu Gott!
Unsre heutige Aufgabe geht dahin, diese Hinderniße als Chimären zu erweisen, als die Ausgeburt unsrer Einbildungskraft, als Vorspiegelungen nicht vorhandner Bedrohungen, die alle in sich selbst zusammensinken, sobald das Licht des Kreuzes die Nebel verscheucht!
B. Wir glauben in den fünf Vorträgen unseres abgeschlossenen Cyclus zwei große Haupthinderniße, die so sehr Viele abhalten, überwunden zu haben:
1.) Die Selbstgerechtigkeit des eignen Weges.
2.) Die Unwißenheit der sachlichen Zweifel.
1.) Das religiöse Ringen der Jetztzeit offenbarte uns ein buntes Bild aller der vergeblichen Versuchs aus dem Menschen selbst einen religiösen Aufschwung zu Gott zu unternehmen.

Es ist ein ganz gewaltiges Hindernis auf dem Wege zu Gott, so lange wir noch mit unserer Religiösität und Frömmigkeit, mit unserer Entschiedenheit und Gesetzlichkeit zu Gott kommen wollen.
Es ist die Botschaft der Gnade, die den Weg zu Gott bedeutet. Gnade gebrauchen heißt: der Verzicht auf jede eigne Bemuhung, die Drangabe aller Rechte:
Bild: Der Mörder, der bei der Gnade endet! Enn wir den Weg annehmen wollen, den Gott gebahnt hat, müßen wir die Wege aufgeben, in denen wir uns selbst verschüttet haben.

2.) Das häufigste Hindernis ist in der modernen Zeit die Unwissenheit über Jesus, die sachlichen Zweifel, ob Jesus wirklich Gott gebracht hat.
Deshalb: Jesus als der Beweis Gottes.
Jesus, wie Er wirklich war.
Die größte Tat der Geschichte.

Stellt euch vor die Person Jesu! Und alle Zweifel schwinden. Studiert Jesus! Und ihr werdet zur Sicherheit gelangen über den Weg zu Gott! Torrey S.71. a und b

Aber: "Der seelische Mensch vernimmt nichts vom Geist Gottes." "Es sei denn, daß jemand von neuem geboren werde, sonst kann er das Reich nicht sehen."
Durch die Wiedergeburt erhalten wir einen Einblick nach dem anderen so daß wir stückweise wachsen in der Erkenntnis unseres Herrn!
Je mehr wir von Ihm haben, umso mehr verschwinden alle Fragen und Rätsel vor Seiner Klarheit.
Wir können Ihn aber nicht anders haben, als durch eine ganze, klare Entscheidung.
Jesus hat ein sicheres Mittel für jeden ernstgesinnten Zweifler: Torrey S.69 (VII,1) So jemand will des Wille tun

3.) Aber bei den meisten von uns sind es nicht sachliche Zweifel an Gott und Jesus, die ihre Hinderniße bilden, sondern persönliche Furcht, ob gerade Sie ein ganzer Christ sein können.
I. Sie haben Furcht daß Sie das neue Leben nicht durchführen können, daß die Kraft nicht reicht.

Sie brauchen nichts zu fürchten!
Sie haben Kraft die Fülle!
Der Vater der Liebe! Jesus in Ihnen!

Es kommt schließlich sehr bald dahin, daß es Ihre größte Freude sein wird, mit Christus zu leiden!
